KERNERSVILLE — Southwest Guilford defeated East Forsyth 65-57 in nonconference boys basketball Wednesday at East Forsyth.
Darrell Howze had 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Cowboys (4-1), who led 28-21 at halftime. Brayden Gatling added 16 points, making four 3-pointers, followed by Wesley Oxce with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
In the girls game, Southwest won 42-37 to improve to 5-0. Star Hughes scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Cowgirls. McKenzie Moore had 11 points and seven rebounds, while T’Yauna Freeman had 10 points and seven rebounds. Alyson Webb-Garcia had five assists.

MOCKSVILLE — Ledford fell 63-54 against Davie County in nonconference boys basketball Wednesday at Davie.
The Panthers dipped to 4-1 overall.

BURLINGTON — Phoenix Academy beat Clover Garden 81-61 in nonconference boys basketball Wednesday at Clover Garden.
The Firebirds improved to 4-3 overall.
In the girls game, Phoenix won 47-22 to improve to 6-1.

TRINITY — Trinity lost 58-49 against NC Leadership Academy in nonconference boys basketball Wednesday at Trinity.
Max Routh had 27 points and six rebounds for the Bulldogs (0-7). Jackson Lee added 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Mason Ingram had four points and six assists.
In the girls game, Trinity won 52-32 to improve to 3-4. Madison Hill scored 17 points to lead the Bulldogs, while Ava Nance had 11 points and Carolina Case had seven points.

PANTHERS EARN TRACK HONORS
CHARLOTTE — High Point University’s Brianna Malone, Zamesha Myle and Cole Wilson were among this week’s Big South Conference indoor track athletes of the week.
On the women’s side, Malone was named the Track Athlete of the Week and Myle was named the Field Athlete of the Week. On the men’s side, Wilson was selected the Field Athlete of the Week
Myle opened her first meet with the Panthers at the Liberty Kickoff with a record-setting start. She was first in the triple jump, setting a program record at 13.04 meters — the third best mark in Big South history. The graduate transfer from Ohio State also placed fourth in the 60m dash with a sprint of 7.56.
Malone competed at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener at Boston University on Saturday afternoon and kicked things off in the women’s 3000m. She placed seventh overall and was two seconds shy of her own school record.
Wilson collected 5,723 points for first place in the men’s heptathlon, just 49 points less than his facility record a season ago at the Liberty Kickoff. Wilson placed first in three of the events including the pole vault (4.82m), long jump (7.31m) and the shot put (14.73m). His long jump was a new personal best mark.
THREE PANTHERS EARN ALL-REGION
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Three High Point University men’s soccer players have earned United Soccer Coaches All-South Region honors. It’s the most selections for the Panthers since 2022, while it marks 21 all-region selections under coach Zach Haines dating back to 2019.
Daniel Lugo was named United Soccer Coaches First Team All-South Region for his first all-region accolade, while Jefferson Amaya earned his fourth straight All-South Region honor with second team recognition as Lukas Kamrath received his first All-South Region award with a third team placement.
Lugo, a redshirt sophomore striker, started in 19 of 20 games while scoring 14 goals — with a single-season program best seven game-winning scores — and assisting on five for a team and conference-leading 33 points in 1,191 minutes played.
Amaya, a senior, became the first player in conference history to win a different major award in four straight seasons — Freshman of the Year (2022), Offensive Player of the Year (2023) and Defensive Player of the Year (2024) while earning four straight all-region, all-academic and all-conference selections.
Kamrath, a redshirt sophomore defender, has started in 34 of 35 appearances in two years. He’s scored five goals — two game-winning scores — and assisted on one in nearly 3,000 minutes. He has been a consistent anchor behind his scoring ability and defensive stance in helping register 16 clean sheets.
