Unless Lionel Messi somehow does the impossible at 43 years old in 2030, Sunday's World Cup final at MetLife Stadium was almost certainly the last World Cup match for the sport's greatest player.

And judging from his postgame reaction on the field, Messi knew it.

After finding ways to pull off miraculous wins all World Cup, Argentina struggled to even challenge Spain in the final. They didn't register a shot until extra time, and Messi particularly was quiet against that Spanish back line.

Still, the 1-0 loss didn't change the legacy of soccer's best ever player. And as he prepared to walk off a World Cup field for last time, Messi had to take it all in. His emotions were on display.

The Argentina fan section serenaded Messi, and the 39-year-old superstar was visibly in tears.

Messi's likely last World Cup didn't end how he would have wanted, but the Argentina fans had to show their appreciation for everything he's accomplished over a legendary international career.
