The defending WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces announced that they have parted ways with Chennedy Carter.
Las Vegas announced on July 7 that it would be parting ways with Carter, who signed with the team in April to a training camp contract. The franchise signed rookie/forward Justine Pissott from the Indiana Fever as a replacement.
The Aces did not provide any information or explanation on their decision to waive Carter. The team will suit up again to play the Portland Fire on July 9, at 7 p.m.
Carter provided the Aces with instant scoring, averaging 12.2 points 1.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists while shooting 60 percent from the field. She also shot 52.4 percent from three point range.
Before playing with the Aces, Carter played with the Atlanta Dream, Los Angeles Sparks, and Chicago Sky. After playing in Chicago, she played overseas in Mexico.
Throughout her career in the WNBA, Carter has been misunderstood. In 2021, while she was playing for the Dream she was suspended in 2021 for conduct detrimental to the team.
In 2023, while the former Aces guard was with the Los Angeles Sparks, she was benched for disciplinary reasons, leading to her being waived by the team.
After the Sparks, the Sky picked her up where she had a strong season. However, due to coaching changes, she didn't receive an opportunity to remain with the team
In Las Vegas, Carter provided the team with an instant threat off the bench. However, she only played 13 games this season. She missed eight games this season but the team did not specify why she was waived.
While the Aces did not provide a reason for Carter being waived, the franchise does evaluate talent at a rapid rate. In 2024, the franchise drafted Dyaisha Fair from Illinois, who was a coveted point guard.
Fair who was the third leading scorer in NCAA Division I women's basketball history with 3,403 points, was selected No. 16 overall by Las Vegas in 2024 was waived during training camp.
While Fair impressed early on in training camp and secured a spot, she was eventually let go by the team. Later on in the 2024 season, the Aces struggled with depth, health and extra bodies in the back court.
With the franchise waiving Carter, the team will have Pissott as another option to develop. She played one preseason game, scoring 8 points on 2 of 3 shooting from behind the arc.
