Lakers legend Magic Johnson criticizes HBO's "Winning Time:" "That was somebody telling you something that wasn't true."

In an interview on AppleTV+, former professional basketball player Magic Johnson shared his disapproval of HBO’s drama series “Winning Time” about the Showtime era of the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1980s after Johnson joined the team. When asked if someone could say they know Magic Johnson from watching the show, Johnson replied the person would not know him because the portrayal is "somebody telling you something that wasn’t true." Former general manager Jerry West, late owner Jerry Buss, former coach Pat Riley, and even former Laker girl Paula Abdul are also in “They Call Me Magic.”
