Lakers Continuing to Expand Front Office This Summer

As the Lakers’ transition into a new era under owner Mark Walter, the franchise has already made several changes to its front office. With Walter being a majority owner of the Lakers and Los Angeles Dodgers, he wants the two franchises to collaborate more.

He hired Farhan Zaidi and Andrew Friedman to advisory roles in November, then hired Lon Rosen as the new president of business operations in February and then hired Michael Spetner as chief strategy and growth officer in March.

“It’s a full rebuild and retool,” Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka told reporters about the franchise’s collaboration with the Los Angeles Dodgers in May. “It’s adding to the great things that are already here, which have led to success, but elevating it and bringing it to the next level.”

Last week, the Lakers laid off more than a dozen employees within the marketing, team communications, team content and corporate partnerships departments. Additionally, the franchise hired Rohan Ramadas as an assistant general manager on May 25.

The Lakers reportedly plan to hire one more assistant general manager, who will be responsible for “player draft and evaluation processes” and “pro scouting, draft scouting, player development.”
