COWETA — This season, Tahlequah girls soccer played later than they had in eight years.
Facing off with Coweta, Monday, May 4, the Lady Tigers were in the playoffs for the first time since 2018 and picked up a score in the losing effort. Coweta proved to be too much, winning 6-1 and moving on to the next round of the playoffs.
Coming into the game, the Lady Tigers were looking back at an early-season loss to CHS. Missing a few players, THS lost 1-0 and thought they could replicate that game heading into the showdown.
"I think they played hard; from the get-go, I thought they could win," THS coach Scottie McKee said. "We weren't afraid of Coweta at all. They are a talented team and we thought we could have had a revenge match coming in."

In the first half, Coweta jumped out to a 3-1 lead, but the game was still within reach. Freshman Ally Whitmore picked up the score for the Lady Tigers.
About 15 minutes into the second half, Coweta started to stretch the lead out, grabbing a goal.
After falling into a 3-point deficit, the Lady Tigers didn't stop pushing for the goal. Lorelie Espinoza, Maddie Sheron, Zoey Farris and Addie Chuculate all went on strong runs and had strong shots on goal, but were stopped by Coweta's strong goal tender.
With time running out, CHS added two more goals to run up the score to 6-1.
Despite the loss, the Lady Tigers believe this is just the start. They will lose about half the starting lineup of senior starters to graduation, but McKee thinks they will have players ready to slot in for a run for the upcoming seasons.
"They were still trying in the end; we wish we had some cleaner shots go in," McKee said. "They played hard and this is the first time we've been here since 2018, and we expect to go back next year."
THS finished the season with an 11-9 record.
