The San Francisco 49ers made one of the biggest moves on the offseason when they signed wide receiver Mike Evans to an affordable deal for the next three years.
While it's been some time since that deal was announced, we've yet to hear 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan's thoughts about the deal. However, NBC Sports Bay Area's Jennifer Lee Chan caught up with Shanahan at the Fanatics Flag Football game over the weekend and asked the coach about his new target.
“Mike is a unique dude," Shanahan said. "He’s a Hall of Famer. Never had a guy truly like Mike. Had some Hall of Famers, but they’ve all been wired differently. To get a guy with Mike’s length and what he can do down the field, how big of a competitor he is, I just love the guy that we added, and how committed he is to winning. And that’s why I think he chose to come to us.”
Shanahan even acknowledged what it means that Evans was willing to take less money and pay the state income tax in California opposed to Florida.
"That says everything about how important football is to him," Shanahan said. "He thinks football first and wanted to be in what he thought was the best football situation for him. And when you have guys like that, to me, it gives you a chance to do something special."
Evans may turn 33 this year, but Shanahan believes that he's still the game-changer that he was during his 10 seasons in Tampa Bay that helped him make six Pro Bowls, two All-Pro teams and win two Super Bowls.
