Before the San Francisco 49ers take on the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne, Australia, in Week 1, they'll have three exhibition games in the preseason against the Tennessee Titans, Los Angeles Chargers and Las Vegas Raiders.

On Thursday, head coach Kyle Shanahan announced that the team will conduct joint practice sessions before their preseason matchups with the Titans in Santa Clara, California, and the Chargers in Inglewood, California.

There are obvious connections between these teams, as Tennessee's head coach is former 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, and Los Angeles' head coach is former 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh.

Joint practices give coaches an opportunity to allow their players to compete against another team in a setting where the coaches can control the situations and attempt to limit injuries.

This likely means that neither team will play many of their starters for much of San Francisco's first two preseason games this year.
