Konnor Griffin Opens Up On Learning From Brandon Lowe originally appeared on SportsNet Pittsburgh. Add SportsNet Pittsburgh as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Pittsburgh Pirates promoted star shortstop Konnor Griffin earlier this season and he’s been an impact player for the team.
Yet, given that Griffin is just 20-years-old, he’s been learning on the job, and veteran second baseman Brandon Lowe has been taking him under his wing and has helped him adjust to the MLB.
“He's taken me in,” Griffin said of Lowe. “He’s a ballplayer, and he's fun to learn from and pick his brain. He's played in World Series games, so it’s cool to have a guy like that, and get to be around every day.”
Lowe is in his ninth MLB season and has appeared in 805 career games, so he’s a good veteran for Griffin to learn from.
Pittsburgh went out and traded for the power hitter this offseason and Lowe has fit in nicely into the lineup and into the clubhouse, as Pittsburgh’s front office had a simple message to him.
“What was brought up was, ‘Whatever you're doing over in Tampa, just bring it in here,’” Lowe said.
Lowe is having success as he’s hitting .252 with 15 home runs and 41 RBIs, as the 31-year-old has become an impact hitter for the Pirates.
As for Pittsburgh, the Pirates are 34-32 and are 0.5 games out of a Wild Card spot and will begin a three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday.
