Kentucky’s pursuit of a 15th scholarship player appears to have hit a snag.

After emerging as the favorite just a couple of weeks ago for Serbian phenom Nikola Kusturica, momentum has shifted dramatically.

On Tuesday, 247 Sports’ Travis Branham logged a crystal ball prediction in favor of UCLA, signaling that Mark Pope and the Wildcats are now likely to miss out on the 6-foot-8 international standout.

While Kusturica would have added another high-upside wing to an already talented roster, his departure from Kentucky’s radar doesn’t leave the Wildcats scrambling.

Pope has built impressive depth this offseason, and the final scholarship spot remains more of a luxury than a necessity.

The bigger question now becomes: who is next?

At the moment, there has been one high school name that has popped up, and it’s 4-star C and reclass candidate Caleb Ourigou. He quietly had his visit last weekend, per Jack Pilgrim of KSR.

Pope acknowledged Tuesday that the staff remains “fully engaged” in searching for the final roster piece, suggesting they are continuing to monitor both the international market and any late-emerging reclassification options before using the scholarship.

Knowing Pope, patience may prove to be the best strategy. He’s shown throughout the offseason that he’s willing to wait for the right fit rather than fill a roster spot simply to reach 15 players.

Who do you think will fill that last roster spot?
