Karl Ravech has been let go by ESPN as part of the company’s latest round of layoffs according to The Athletic. Ravech and Ryan Clark are the most high-profile names involved so far. There are expected to be a number of off-camera employees who will also be let go today.
Ravech started at ESPN in 1993 and had been an on-air personality at the company for more than three decades. Ravech was a SportsCenter anchor and is best known for his work with ESPN’s baseball coverage. He was easily one of the most recognizable voices at the company who would not show up on debate shows. He was the host of “Baseball Tonight” from 1996 to 2022 and more recently did play-by-play for “Sunday Night Baseball.”
He was not fired during a broadcast like Clark was on Monday, but he did call last night’s Dodgers-Phillies game for ESPN hours before he learned the news.
This sucks. Ravech and Clark are just a couple of the people who are going to find out they’re losing their jobs at ESPN this week. These are dream jobs. People working for the biggest name in sports media. Some, who like Ravech, have given decades of their personal and professional lives to the company.
