LAWRENCE — Kansas baseball will host a NCAA regional this postseason, the NCAA announced on Sunday.
The Jayhawks, revealed as one of the top 16 teams in the field of 64 for the NCAA tournament, will welcome three teams to Lawrence in the days ahead for that regional. The rest of the regional will be revealed during the tournament selection show on Monday, May 25, at 11 a.m. CT. Regardless of who they’ll face, KU (42-16) has made history as this is the first time in program history that the team will host a regional in Lawrence.

“To affirm that this place can be incredible in the sport of baseball, with amazing people like Dan Fitzgerald and an awesome group of young men — I’m so excited for Lawrence, the state, the region, we’re coming back, we’re hosting next week,” Travis Goff said in video posted on social media this weekend on X by KU baseball, in the aftermath of winning the Big 12 Conference tournament title. “Let’s go, Rock Chalk.”
Goff, Kansas’ director of athletics and vice chancellor, brought coach Dan Fitzgerald in ahead of the 2023 season. Last year, Fitzgerald took the team to its first NCAA tournament since 2014. Now it’s making a second-straight NCAA tournament appearance, and continuing to raise the bar for what success is possible at KU.
Maybe Kansas needed to go on a run and win the Big 12 tournament championship in recent days, to be able to host, and maybe it had already secured that honor. Kansas, of course, had already won the Big 12 regular season title. But whatever doubt that might have been there, that the Jayhawks wouldn’t host, no longer needs to linger, because there’ll be more baseball in the days to come inside Hoglund Ballpark.
