The running back final spot could come down to Chris Johnson or Andre Ellington, since they’ll keep three others including David Johnson, Kerwynn Williams and Elijhaa Penny. Johnson signed a one-year contract for $900K in base salary including $200K guaranteed. He fumbled twice and dropped a pass against the Falcons, plus hasn’t been able to stay healthy the last two years.

Ellington has the edge over Johnson. He agreed to one-year deal for $775K with $80K in guarantees in the offseason. Penny has earned a spot based on his work in the offseason and training camp.

And thinks ellington has the edge over CJ

I like how penny fights for every yard but he needs to hang on to the ball more.

Curious though that Ellington is scheduled to play Thursday, while BA is holding CJ out. The ones playing in the last pre-season game are typically the ones who are on the bubble or on the wrong side of the bubble.

Or the guys they know for sure they're gonna cut and don't want to risk an injury settlement

Good point. But out of respect for a veteran like CJ, BA should let him go now so he can try to sign with another team.

He's a vested veteran. No one's going to sign him until after Week 1 (if at all), so they don't have to guarantee his contract.

I'm surprised there's no strum and drang on this board that we let Mike Gillislee walk two years ago (?). He's gonna rush for 1200 yards in New England this year.

Good point.

Gillislee is good...can't believe the Bills let him go to the Pats after getting burned by trading Chris Hogan to the Pats in 2016. The only concern about Gillislee is can he be the bell cow and take the pounding?

I've been hoping Penny makes the team because he brings something different to the team. He is a banger.

However, I must admit, I beginning to question his ability to get a consistent burst through the line. I can understand whatever decision the Cardinals make.

One question, is Penny eligible for the practice squad?

I'm not sure if AE and CJ can stay healthy.

Thanks. Maybe this is an option if Penny is waived and he clears waivers. I must admit I have been rooting for him.

I don't even remember him being in our roster?

Well, your right we should have kept him, but I really doubt he will run for 1200 yards.

New England has dion Lewis, James white and Rex burkhead plus guillislee. From what I have heard he is low man on the totem pole right now. But who knows with bellichek.

That's only because he was injured. They have high hopes for him.

High hopes really don't amount to a hill of beans in NE... That guys plays the RB by reading tea leaves it would seem...

I remember wanting the Cards to draft him when he was eligible. I think he was just coming off injury when the Cards had him.

I don't think that will be a problem because NE rarely runs a RB into the ground. They like to change and mix it up in the backfield. In other words they use all of their RBs.
