Lol! Playoffs? Playoffs? We are going 3-13 this year and we are wondering who we are going to hire to assure us playoff victories.

I don't get why so many people on here want to try the Denny Green experience again.

Caldwell/McCarthy are retreads who rode the coat tails of all time greats at QB to good records. Both are viewed by their fanbases as headcoaches who held their teams back. They are both like Ken Whisenhunt.

Sorry but there is a major difference between these two. Manning and Stafford were already stars when Caldwell took over the teams while Rodgers was a 2nd year backup when McCarthy took over the Packers. Farve was the qb. Many feel that McCarthy developed Rodgers.

Please show me anywhere where anyone said we wanted Caldwell here. The point those of us are trying to make is that Caldwell, regardless of your opinion, is a decent coach. His record spells that out. He took one team to the Super Bowl and led another, a perennial loser I might add, to 3 winning seasons in 4 years including 2 after losing the best WR in the league to an early retirement. The guy was a head coach for 7 years and had 5 winning season and yet to some of you he's Ken Whisenhunt who had 2 winning seasons in 8 years as a head coach. Not even close. As I said, you have to go back to the late 60's/early 70's to find anyone who coached the Lions who left with a winning record. That's a list that includes Steve Mariucci, Bobby Ross, Wayne Fontes, and Darryl Rogers, some of whom people would consider coaching legends.

You can post stats without qualifiers, and they really are meaningless.

Caldwell got to the Super Bowl with Peyton Manning, but then won like what, 1 game when he was hurt with the same team?

The Lions had tons of talent but perennially were underachievers based on prognosticators.

Caldwell was/is an average coach with average results. Should the Cardinals shoot for average?

What’d he do after that? You do realize him & Schwartz made the same amount of playoffs & won the same amount of playoff games when they both were HCs, right?

You say he “took his” team to the big dance, but everyone knows he was just along for the ride with Peyton leading the way. Dude went 2-14 without Peyton during his stint in Indy.

I love how you use Cardinals persent or former personnel to boost up non-Cardinals like we’re the benchmark or something.
Stories are told that Peyton ran those Caldwell Colt teams. Right down to practices, game plans, in game decisions etc.

Many.

Many also feel that McCarthy has ridden Rodgers coattails for years.

So don't give credit to McCarthy for making Rodgers a star?? Ridiculous, that McCarthy gets no credit from you on developing Rodgers. Well, whatever.

It doesn't change the fact that I think McCarthy is a replacement level coach. He might be a good position coach, but he squandered away the prime of one of the best QBs of this generation.

LaConfora reports that McCarthy was offered H-C and personnel/player control by the Cards and turned it down. Keim is now putting together an interview list.

People have to remember what a crapshow the Packers FO has been for a long time in terms of getting and keeping players. Letting FA's walk, not signing guys in FA, and overpaying some of the guys they did sign really badly. Rodgers also has been a highly paid QB for many years constraining things even more. They have a unique business model which tends to make them more frugal.

Personally I think Rodgers was held back more by the front office/business model than McCarthy. We also shouldn't forget we knocked them out of the playoffs, what 2 or 3 times? Plus Rodgers has had injuries derailing the team.

That doesn't mean he's my top choice, it just means I see him more of a guy who made lemonade out of lemons. Yeah he had Rodgers, but not much else. Which is also why whenever he misses a game they are dead in the water. The team just isn't good.

McCarthy is more of a guy I'd settle for, and I don't want anyone worse than him. Him or better.

How could this be true? This would not satisfy the Rooney rule.

1. It's LaConfora's report
2. Unless they've made a 'formal' offer they aren't contravening any rule
3. I'm sure something can be contrived to meet The Rooney rule, which is not designed to preclude a team hiring who they see as the best person for the job(s).

1. I get it, and why I am not buying it.
2. He stated they offered him full personal control, and he declined it. That sound pretty formal to me.
2. I understand, but I stand by what I said in another thread, the Cards have never been one to circumvent the rules.

Just saw a headline on ESPN that said “Pack request interview with Fitzgerald.” I realized it was the Northwestern coach they wanted to talk to.
