ML is the true wild card here. What’s this offense going to look like? It seemed Gannons philosophy was dependent on every drive being a 12 play 7 to 8 minute drive. It’s nice when you can do that but on occasion you need to be able to strike fast.
Yes, we simply don’t know what LaFleur wants. I have gone by the assumption that his offense would be inspired by Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay, but who knows?
If that assumption is right, I see two options regarding Love. I think he has similarities to Christian McCaffrey, but I also think that McVay’s offense has worked fine with later drafted, a bit limited runningbacks. So, my point is we don’t get many hints from that perspective.
About an offensive tackle, historically, both those offenses have relied on an outside zone-scheme at the offensive line, and Mauigoa is a bad fit for that. That is why I had them taking Monroe Freeling in my mock draft, but Spencer Fano is also a much better fit than Mauigoa. Iheanachor is too, for that matter. However, last season, McVay and LaFleur incorporated a ton more power running-elements to their offense, and
that could open up for players like Mauigoa, Proctor or Blake Miller. Again the conclusion inevitable is that we don’t have many hints about which player fits best.
I understand why many simply follow the national analysts, since we have no idea what type they want, but I think it is necessary to have the dilemma in mind.
One more thing. If we trade out of the 3rd pick it has to include a first rounder in 2027. I don’t want the Cowboys 12th and 20th pick. I want the 12th, a 2nd, a 1st round in 2027 and an additional 2nd.
Yes, I agree that it should be very expensive. I could see scenarios where three picks in the top #34 could make a big difference in terms of the outlook going into this season, but I also agree that they need difference makers, and it might be worth it to pay a little overprize. Reaching for Bain or Bailey might be okay since they are not going to get them outside the top ten, and both could potentially become game changers.
