Our free agency signings are telegraphing a RT pick.
Which is fine, but it shouldn't be at #3.

It's not about sexy or not sexy. If there was a legit Big John OT at #3, I'd be all about it. There isn't. There appears to be enough legit Big Johns to assure getting one at #3. Trading down would definitely take us out of that range. Taking an inferior player talent just to fill a different position isn't a good idea, especially when you are as bereft of talent as the Cards are.I see it as ensuring our top players like McBride and Wilson are enabled to play their best ball. Its also about setting up the infrastructure for the next QB we draft in 2027.
Sorry, I know its not sexy. But to me its the most logical play.
Well if I ain’t getting my earth mover for the run game I sure don’t want a rb at 3….i was thinking last night Bailey at 3 if we don’t go for the Miami ot….in this division we need to slow down some high powered attacks and Bailey helps usWhich is fine, but it shouldn't be at #3.
Welcome, HouseofCards!!Since the Cards are many many players away from true contention, we definitely should not be drafting for need. Aside from Mendoza who is the only player we know will be gone when we pick, the player that I am seeing popping up the most in the top 3 on most of the pundits lists is Love. I am not a component usually of drafting a RB/S/G/C/RT/ILB this high, but----we have needs at most or all of these positions as well as pretty much every other position but LT/WR/TE/CB (I feel CB is at least okay). Since this isn't a top draft class by anyone's rankings, we need to take the very best player on the board. Now I am also okay if we were to take Bailey/Bain/Downs/Styles if and it's a very big IF, one of them is the top player on their board. I am not okay with one of the tackles at 3 or any QB not named Mendoza. I also don't care that we just signed a RB-- because as far as I am concerned, He is the only reliable RB on our roster and in todays world you need at least 2. I really really love me some Conner and I loved Benson when we drafted him but Conner is old and injury prone and coming off a serious injury--Benson hasn't really shown me anything other than the inability to stay healthy even as a part time back.
I would like to remember what it feels like to have an offense where we have someone in the backfield that has to be game planned for. It has been a long time since we had a true top 5 RB and we have never had one to pair with the best TE in the game. When you have those 2 threats, it will open up play action and open up lanes for our 2 (hopefully MHJ takes a step) legit WRs. We literally did not put up 28 points one time last year? We need offensive weapons now. I know we also need OL help but we get back our good (not great) LT, we signed a legit LG, we have a good (not great) C, we draft our RT or RG in round 2 if one is worthy of that pick. I believe this gives us an OL that is good enough to compete each week. We still have no idea of JB's ceiling if he had a run game and a decent OL-- I know before you say it, no his ceiling isn't top 10, but could it be top 15 and could we score enough points to help out out defense? I think so.
I say we take the best player in the draft not named Mendoza and if the Jets take that guy, then we take the next top player. I would be okay really with any positions in any rounds except TE and QB this year. Just acquire talent. The packers drafted AR when they sill had a great Favre, the cowboys drafted CD when they had other huge holes, the Falcons drafted Bijan when they had a good RB--draft talent--draft talent--draft talent!!! We will have maybe the most $$$ in free agency next year in the league and then we need to spend like the Pats last year and the Titans and Raiders this year on 24-28 year old studs.
I see what you did there.I'd love it, but my hopes have been dwindling every day.

The saving grace...I wish this was last year's draft. It's sad to sit with the #3 pick and have serious conversations about taking a RB or RT at that spot. Or, a huge gamble on a QB would would have to improve a lot to be the 5th or 6th best QB next year had he stayed in college.
Based on talent and the value of positions that best taken high in the draft then the pick should be an EDGE. But there is no Will Anderson in this draft. Some nice looking players, but nobody that makes you say "WOW!"
How do you know the Cards didn’t bid the highest? We’re going to suck regardless next year and beyond until we can find a good QB. That’s why we should have outbid for Willis. 25-30 mill a year to me is not a big deal even if it doesn’t work out on a short contract. You have to keep trying until you hit on one. Thats why we need to take Simpson around 10 if we can. No QB no chance
Well, yeah, there is always what turns out to be multiple great players in every draft. There will be some in this draft as well. Who knows maybe even Simpson. The saving grace...
There is an all pro or three in the draft. Every draft, most of the top prospects never reach their ceiling and a couple guys nobody really ever heard of come from nowhere and dominate the league.
guys like, say... Maxx Crosby..who was a fourth round pick....
as a Redbird fan, our source of hope actually comes from the darkness...everyone, every team, seems lost in regards to finding the value in this draft. while its possible, every player picked is out of the league in three years...I think it highly unlikely... but if every team and scout is going in blind...then each pick is a total shot in the dark....which finally puts us on a level playing field with everyone else.
doesnt matter that your GM is an idiot thats handcuffed by a moron owner...because pure random ass luck will apparently reveal the talent in this draft....and when it comes to luck,...I realize that ours is absolute crap... but we are due,...right?? after all these years...aint we about due to strike draft day gold and find a game changing Hall of Famer that wants to be a Cardinal, and continually makes the team relevant?
Eric Swann with healthy knees?? The Gen Z iteration of Marshall Faulk?
Neil Lomax 2.0 with updated durability hardware?
if we are really all just drawing straws in the draft...then maybe we actually have as good a shot as say, the Rams...to come out of this draft with several guys who actively compete for ROY into December.
Maybe its finally our turn to crap gold for a change instead of watching our rivals do it again and again.
Because honestly, I did not watch a ton of college football this year. But based on what I did watch I refuse to give credence to the idea that there is just zero talent in this draft.
poor coaching, limited experience, improper scheme fits...sure.
But not a total lack of talent. Its there...we just need to identify it.
Agree to disagree. Love is great player. Not doubting that. That is too much draft capital to spend at #3 on that position. It's not about sexy or not sexy. Here’s the issue: if McBride and Wilson are your top players, you’re never going to be a great team. If love is next level, then McBride and Wilson likely line up in more impactful #2 and #3 roles.I see it as ensuring our top players like McBride and Wilson are enabled to play their best ball. Its also about setting up the infrastructure for the next QB we draft in 2027.
Sorry, I know its not sexy. But to me its the most logical play.
Agreed. And welcome. I’ll take an enchiladas from Los Dos Molinos and cool Pepsi with no ice. Thanks for all the replies and for the advice. If Joe Thomas or even Joe Alt was there at 3 I would jump on him, he definitely is not, so we take a game changer--offense or defense.
