Since the Cards are many many players away from true contention, we definitely should not be drafting for need. Aside from Mendoza who is the only player we know will be gone when we pick, the player that I am seeing popping up the most in the top 3 on most of the pundits lists is Love. I am not a component usually of drafting a RB/S/G/C/RT/ILB this high, but----we have needs at most or all of these positions as well as pretty much every other position but LT/WR/TE/CB (I feel CB is at least okay). Since this isn't a top draft class by anyone's rankings, we need to take the very best player on the board. Now I am also okay if we were to take Bailey/Bain/Downs/Styles if and it's a very big IF, one of them is the top player on their board. I am not okay with one of the tackles at 3 or any QB not named Mendoza. I also don't care that we just signed a RB-- because as far as I am concerned, He is the only reliable RB on our roster and in todays world you need at least 2. I really really love me some Conner and I loved Benson when we drafted him but Conner is old and injury prone and coming off a serious injury--Benson hasn't really shown me anything other than the inability to stay healthy even as a part time back.

I would like to remember what it feels like to have an offense where we have someone in the backfield that has to be game planned for. It has been a long time since we had a true top 5 RB and we have never had one to pair with the best TE in the game. When you have those 2 threats, it will open up play action and open up lanes for our 2 (hopefully MHJ takes a step) legit WRs. We literally did not put up 28 points one time last year? We need offensive weapons now. I know we also need OL help but we get back our good (not great) LT, we signed a legit LG, we have a good (not great) C, we draft our RT or RG in round 2 if one is worthy of that pick. I believe this gives us an OL that is good enough to compete each week. We still have no idea of JB's ceiling if he had a run game and a decent OL-- I know before you say it, no his ceiling isn't top 10, but could it be top 15 and could we score enough points to help out out defense? I think so.

I say we take the best player in the draft not named Mendoza and if the Jets take that guy, then we take the next top player. I would be okay really with any positions in any rounds except TE and QB this year. Just acquire talent. The packers drafted AR when they sill had a great Favre, the cowboys drafted CD when they had other huge holes, the Falcons drafted Bijan when they had a good RB--draft talent--draft talent--draft talent!!! We will have maybe the most $$$ in free agency next year in the league and then we need to spend like the Pats last year and the Titans and Raiders this year on 24-28 year old studs.

I will be the devils advocate and say pass. RB is not a top tier position anymore. Plenty of teams do it via committee successfully.

We need a RT or and EDGE way more. I personally believe we should trade down slightly and pick RT Francis Mauigoa.

House of Cards---I'm 100% with you on the Love pick. Got a chance to take a superior player to add to our collection of average talent. He's one RB who would make the OL appear better than they are. Add him to the mix and our offense will become serious business.

Also, Stout was simply providing a comment on posting protocol. Don't label it as snarky. That's the prerogative of the spinster English teachers and the older muppets who sit in the balcony and oversee the postings. Unless you are the ghost of Jack Kerouac (and not just 9 times removed), try putting a space after every third line or fourth line.

Like this. It makes reading easier for the old farts here.

What do you think of my avatar?

It is a lot easier for the D to scheme around a dominant RT than it is to scheme around a dynamic playmaker at RB who is also a receiving threat. Put Love in the slot and overmatch the D and leave our TE and our new WR1 in single coverage. You can put a RT on an island of neglect. Not so with a home-run hitter---you got to account for this guy on every play with every D player doing a double-take as to where he is lining up. Our play-action game with JB under center will rack up the yards.

But thanks for the snarky comment
Oh, I didn't notice you were new; I just saw the wall of text. I only gave you a hard time because I assumed you were a regular. My bad!

Newbies buy around here, so I'll take a large order of humble pie :)

That is the Full Monti "I don't want Big Johns, I want moar lesser players!" strategy. Blech.

“MHJ no matter what” too distant of a memory for you guys?
You are correct that there were a lot of people with MHJ as the consensus pick. Love is NOT the consensus pick being put forward by the media and fans----it is the RT. So, lets go with the non-consensus pick and take Love.

There was a lot of debate/disagreement on MHJ as the consensus pick---even among the WR's in that class. Do you really think that was JG's choice as a D-minded coach doing his first draft? That was Mikey's choice to get the next Fitz.

I'm down with it but if we take Styles I will be furious definition of a workout warrior. Reese is similar IMO better athlete than player.

Love is the closest thing to a sure thing in this draft IMO, it's a weak draft.

I feel like it's going to be Mendoza and Bailey 1 and 2 and there's only one guy left in the draft lots of teams will want to trade up for but the rest of the first round is so iffy the odds are if you move down you won't hit. Obviously there's going to be a bunch of guys in the first round who turn out to be good players it happens every year, but finding them is MUCH harder this year

I would absolutely love to see us draft him. The season is going to suck anyway, I just want something interesting to watch.

I see it as ensuring our top players like McBride and Wilson are enabled to play their best ball. Its also about setting up the infrastructure for the next QB we draft in 2027.

Sorry, I know its not sexy. But to me its the most logical play.

Move like this feels way too browns, jets, raiders, and cardinals-like. No good team/franchise ever builds with flashy stuff first, total luxury pick.
