Hamstring issues have been an epidemic all through the league not just with us.
Almost impossible to predict or come up with a 100% training program to prevent this.

Ai says:

Preventing hamstring injuries in 2025 involves a multi-faceted approach focusing on eccentric strength, progressive loading, and dynamic preparation. Recent 2025 research emphasizes that injuries often occur during rapid acceleration or deceleration when muscles generate tension while lengthening
.

Core Prevention Strategies
  • Eccentric Strengthening: This is widely considered the most effective prevention method, reducing injury incidence by 56% to 70%. It works by increasing muscle fascicle length and improving the muscle's ability to handle high loads while stretching.
  • Nordic Hamstring Curls: Often called the "Holy Grail" of hamstring health, these focus on eccentric loading and can reduce injury rates by up to 80% when performed consistently.
  • Dynamic Warm-ups: Replace static stretching with movement-based activation. Recommended exercises include "inchworms," "three-point lunges with rotation," and "hip airplanes" to prepare muscles for activity.
  • Progressive Sprint Training: Gradually exposing the hamstrings to high-speed running (sprinting) is essential. Small, 5% increments in intensity are recommended once athletes can run pain-free at 80% of their maximal velocity.
  • Trunk and Pelvic Stability: Exercises like the plank help limit anterior pelvic tilt, which reduces excessive strain on the hamstring origins during movement.
  • Managing Fatigue: Muscles are most susceptible to injury when tired. Incorporating "fatigue resistance" training and ensuring adequate rest between sessions is vital.

Recommended Prevention Tools
For additional support during activity or recovery, several specialized products are available:

Key Risk Factors to Monitor
Monitoring and correcting these factors can significantly lower injury risk:
  • H/Q Strength Ratio: Ensuring the strength balance between the hamstrings and quadriceps is optimal.
  • Strength Asymmetry: Addressing significant strength differences between the left and right legs.
  • Mobility: Improving lower back and gluteal mobility to ensure nerves (like the sciatic nerve) can glide freely during movement.

OK, so this was worse than grade 2 tear. Grade 3 is a complete tear that would cause him to not be able to walk, so it is not that. They are either being VERY VERY VERY cautious or it's some kind of a tendon tear (and not muscle) which typically takes 3-4 months to heal.

There's been speculation this staff is overly cautious.

I am in favor of that approach, but something just seems off. Had I not seen him walk after the injury and move around within days of it, I would think he completely tore it. 8-9 weeks is a very long time for a grade 2 hamstring strain. It will be interesting to see if we see a surgery announcement in 2-3 weeks. I hope I am wrong, but something doesn't seem right.

I think they're being extremely cautious. He injured it 3 times in like 2 months.

I thought it was already ridiculous even before the season started. They talk like it's just business as usual but he's had multiple setbacks as best as I can tell and I have zero confidence we'll get much from him this season.
Meanwhile, Gillespie has earned the starting PG position as far as I am concern. The offense runs better with him at the point. Playing Dillon/O'Neale @ the 4 is not a long term answer. Package Green and whoever for a legit 4 like Markkanen or Sabonis "if" they are available

we're competing with everyone - can't rush a hamstring - when he gets cleared give him an extra week off just to be sure because we're talking playoffs

We are above .500 while facing a real hard part of our schedule. At this point we are playing with house money. We saw a glimpse of the offense with Green and it looked dynamic. At this point, I think the Suns are in no hurry to rush him back with the way Gillespie and others have filled in. Brooks has been better on offense overall, even if he can't consistently sustain it.

Markkanen or Sabonis is tempting. The chemistry is so good now (but it was better when we were winning) so I'm leaning toward getting Green healthy and see what backcourt 2025 will look like. Difficult decision to make. What are some realistic trades? Guessing Green is not much worth right now, but Markkanen and Sabonis are not hitting it out of the park either.

Seems from prior guys on the injury stint, they want a guy to practice 5 on 5's at least two to three days in a row before clearing them to play. With all the travel, and such, not sure when they get that in for Jalen.

I recently booked a trip to NY where one son lives and the other in CA is coming to join us. We're going to both the Suns/Knicks and Suns/Nets games on the 17th and 19th. It sure would be amazing to see Jalen Green playing by then. Here's to hoping!

I'd say good chance, especially vs the Nets. That would be a solid tune up game.

Should be a fun trip regardless!

It’s been a blessing in disguise and that’s no shot at Jalen. We needed to see what Brooks and Gillespie were capable of with a bigger offensive load.

Gillepsie has returned to earth some. He's still really good but the threat of paying more than the early bird rights allow seem a bit much now.

Dillon has been excellent.

I just hope Jalen can hit the ground running. I think they have a timeline in place internally that involves his return for a week or two before the All-star break which lets them address any issues his addition could cause.

I agree.

Not only did it allow other players to flourish but Green has to know that his role is to add to this dynamic, not try to be some hero and take it over.

With transition offense, he fills a huge hole. We don't have that explosive athlete that can just blow by teams if given a head of steam.

But he NEEDS to be healthy to be that guy.

The Suns are a better team with Gillespie on the floor. Teams are just targeting him now. I go on espn trade machine and include Green on trade options for Williams (NO) and Markkanen (UT) and it works. This team needs a legit PF not another wing

Lauri would be awesome but there's no winning a trade with Danny Ainge. Odds are we'd lose at least 2 of our younger guys (Maluach, Dunn, Fleming, Oso, Collin) and Jalen.

I like Portis from Milwaukee. Costs a lot less and should be had for either Royce or Grayson. I'd lean towards Grayson if we could get a little something extra because his health hasn't been great while Royce is more versatile.

Jalen is a combo guard. He's not a wing so I trust we'll find space for him. He'll probably lessen Collin's role some but if everyone is producing then that's all that matters.

Allen has become almost like having another Devin Booker on the court as he can create to some extent. His value has increased from last season. Before the season started, I was eager to trade him. Not so much anymore.

He must've damn near ruptured his hamstring. Recovery time for that is 3-4 months.
