How long has Eric Murray been with the Jaguars?

After a long NFL career, Murray landed in Jacksonville in 2025, signing a three–year, $19.5 million deal. He was originally drafted in 2016 by the Kansas City Chiefs, where he remained until 2019. He spent one year with the Cleveland Browns before being traded to the Houston Texans, his final team before signing with the Jaguars.

Recapping Eric Murray's 2025 season

Murray had a productive year in his first season with the Jaguars, quickly cementing his place as a key leader on defense. He appeared in 12 regular season games, and logged 54 total tackles (32 solo), six passes defensed, one sack, one fumble recovery, and one interception. He was briefly placed on injured reserve in October, but returned for the final six games and the playoffs.

Murray's impact goes beyond his production in coverage. He's a willing run defender, brings a physical presence to the position, and an important job of the free safety is communicating assignments and pre-snap adjustments.

Looking ahead to 2026 for Eric Murray

It's expected that Murray will take one of two starting spots at safety, alongside Antonio Johnson. Beyond those two, the secondary unit is largely very young and inexperienced, making Murray's experience even more valuable. As Liam Coen explained, he has already become an integral part of the safety room, both on the field and off.

"He understands how to practice," Coen said. "He's just not a guy who's going to be able to go make a play on the ball without running through the receiver and just pros know how to stay off the ground. Pros know how to understand angles in practice to tag off and not hit people. He's just a pros pro and I really think if he can continue to stay healthy, we're going to see a better player this year out of Eric."
