Liam Coen said that the Jacksonville Jaguars' secondary has "drastically" improved this offseason.
Wide receiver Jakobi Meyers would seem to agree.
"I felt that, honestly," Meyers said. "They be around when I'm trying to get open. But it pushes us to be better in our room, so, hopefully we keep having that. Iron sharpens iron."
John Shipley of Jaguars on SI noted that the Jacksonville secondary has made "several big plays" throughout the offseason, and continued to do so during Thursday's practice, which included a few different players making plays on the ball.
The Jaguars' secondary was already quite stingy last season, ranking seventh in yards per pass attempt allowed, while being one of the best at forcing takeaways.
This spring, however, this unit has seemingly taken a step forward. Coen noted how valuable the addition of Matt Araujo has been, along with the emphasis on taking away the underneath throws, forcing the quarterback to either push the ball downfield or fit the ball into a tight window.
The continuity of being in Anthony Campanile's defense for a second offseason could be a factor in the secondary's high-level play as well.
At cornerback this season will be Montaric Brown, Travis Hunter -- who is not yet practicing as he rehabs from last season's knee injury -- and Jourdan Lewis. At safety will be Eric Murray, Antonio Johnson, and Caleb Ransaw could see playing time as the third safety.
The Jaguars have also seen the emergence of second-year cornerback Jabbar Muhammad.
