Aug. 16—GRAND FORKS — Entering the night, there was a pretty good chance Jade Hastings was going to win his second straight Wayne Anderson Cup — the four-race, in-season event at River Cities Speedway that honors the late founder of the track.

Based on his accumulated points and two prior wins, Hastings basically just had to finish the feature to take the title.

But he didn't want to back into the title.

He went all out to win the feature, and that's what he did in taking the fourth and final leg of the Anderson Cup. Hastings led 29 of the 30 laps to win his sixth overall feature of the year.

"It feels good to win it two years in a row," said Hastings. "I don't know what it is, but we're really on the ball on the Wayne Anderson Cup nights. We won three of the four and that's a 75 percent win rate. I'll take that anytime."

The race was plagued by caution flags, eight of them. And the final one resulted in race officials allowing race teams to add fuel on the backstretch. It took 37 minutes exactly to complete the feature.

Hastings beat Andy Pake to the flag stand by 2.867 seconds. Nick Omdahl was third, followed by Jack Croaker and Laela Eisenschenk.

But the big drama of the race came on a restart with 14 laps to go. Mark Dobmeier, who was in third, passed both Pake and Hastings in Turn 2 for the lead. He held that advantage before sliding off the track in Turn 2 one lap later.

"The car was awesome," said Dobmeier. "We made some changes on it and it was fast. I just pushed it too hard in Turn 2. I knew I was in trouble when I hit the corner."

Hastings assumed the top spot again and cruised to the win.

The race was challenging because of all the restarts in addition to track conditions.

"The track was changing really fast tonight," said Hastings. "And that made it tough to decide where you wanted to start on the restarts. The main thing was just keeping my composure because I tend to get a little angry with all those restarts. That's not the type of race I want to be a part of."

At the start of the season, Hastings said his goal was to win six features. He's now accomplished that. "But there is time to get a few more," he said.

Three other classes competed Friday night.

In the street class, Cole Greseth again won the 20-lap feature.

It's been a remarkable season for the 18-year-old from Harwood, N.D. Greseth won for the eighth time this season at RCS and it was his 21st overall win.

"It's been an incredible year," he said, adding he tries to race three times a week and already has raced more than 40 shows this season.

Trey Hess, who started fifth, ended second 0.254 seconds behind Greseth. Hess pushed Greseth hard in the final laps. Doug VanMill finished third, followed by John Halvorson and Josh Barker.

In the Midwest modifieds division, Brennan Schmidt picked up his first win at RCS as he led all 20 laps. He edged hard-charging Austin Hunter by 0.383 seconds. Hunter, a multi-time winner at RCS, started 12th in the 18-car field.

Connor Drewry finished third, followed by Aaron Blacklance and Frank Veert.

Legends were added to the Friday night race program and Sean Johnson of Kindred won the 20-lap feature, coming from the eighth starting position. He edged Kody Machart by 0.264 seconds. Joshua Wiest was third, followed by Scott Richardson and Carter Restad.

The night also featured the annual school bus races, which attracts one of the better crowds of the regular season.

There were eight buses that competed in the 10-lap feature. Jared Lundeby took the checkered flag
