May 30—GRAND FORKS — Carson Macedo started ninth in Friday night's World of Outlaws 40-lap feature at River Cities Speedway — a track that again proved starting positions usually don't mean a lot.

Macedo steadily charged his way to the front and passed David Gravel for the lead with four laps to go in winning his third feature of the year, pocketing $12,000 in the process.

The Outlaws made their 36th appearance at RCS, and once again provided another dramatic finish on a quarter-mile track that has become one of the top stops on the WoO tour.

"Man, my heart rate was through the roof," said Macedo in Victory Lane. "This track sets a torrid pace. I was up on the wheel hustling hard."

WoO rookie Kasey Jedrzejek started on the pole and held the point early on. But series points leader David Gravel, who started second, took the lead on a Lap 15 restart.

Gravel held the top spot until Macedo grabbed the lead in Turn 4 with four laps to go. Macedo then held off a hard charge from Gravel and won by 0.423 seconds.

Jedrzejek finished third, followed by Chris Windom and Sheldon Haudenschild.

Macedo said he felt good throughout the race, despite starting ninth.

"I felt like I was making good time, good speed," he said.

And he knew lapped traffic would eventually come into play.

"Lapped traffic is always hard here because we catch them so quick," said Macedo."We're usually in traffic in four or five laps. It's tough in general and I just did my best to pick through guys as quickly and safely as I could."

The track was fast throughout the night.

In qualifying, five drivers posted lap times under 10 seconds. Gravel had the quick time of 9.881 seconds. RCS regular Andy Pake was fifth in qualifying at 9.966 seconds. The Felton, Minn., driver also won his heat race, holding off Gravel in the process.

Mark Dobmeier was the top local driver, finishing 14th. "Not a great night for us," said Dobmeier. "But we rolled the car back into the trailer so I guess that's good."

For the second year in a row, a WoO driver came from ninth to win the feature.

That fact wasn't lost on Macedo, a California driver.

"I love this track," he said. "It's really racy. I think when you have two winners in two years coming from ninth, that says a lot about it."

Late models complemented the WoO sprints.

Shane Edginton captured the 20-lap feature. The Winnipeg driver slipped past Dustin Strand with two laps to go. He edged Strand by 0.068 seconds. Brad Send was third, followed by Brody Troftgruben and Nick Corbett.

"Lapped cars played into our favor," said Edginton. "Thank goodness, this wasn't a 25-lap race."
