The USA beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0 in the World Cup round of 32 match in Santa Clara, California, eliminating the Bosnians despite playing the final stretch a man down after Folarin Balogun's red card.

Bosnia and Herzegovina put up a fight against the co-host Americans in the World Cup round of 32 on Wednesday night, but in the end, Bologun and Malik Tillman were too much.

Balogun opened the scoring late in the first hald at Levi's Stadium, capitalizing on a deflected ball to slip a shot past Bosnian goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj.

Early in the second half, Balogun was given a red card following a VAR review for stepping on the ankle of Bosnia's Tarik Muharemovic, leaving the USA to play the rest of the match a man down.

Rather than wilt, the Americans extended the lead. Tillman doubled the lead late in the second half, curling a free kick into the net after Sergino Dest was fouled inside Bosnian territory.

With the win, USA advances to the round of 16 where it will face Belgium.

For Bosnia and Herzegovina, its first-ever appearance in the World Cup knockout stage came to an end. Still, the Bosnians made history simply by reaching the round of 32, advancing out of the group stage for the first time in program history after squeezing through as one of the tournament's best third-place finishers.
