The Iowa men’s basketball team has a chance to earn its first ranked win since the 2023-24 season when it hosts Purdue on Saturday.
The Hawkeyes are also looking for some revenge after losing to the Boilermakers in West Lafayette back in January. A win would go a long way in solidifying Iowa’s spot in the NCAA tournament.
“From an offensive perspective, and now a defensive perspective, (Purdue) has gotten really good, and they are playing with an edge, they’re playing with the leadership they have with Braden (Smith), Fletcher (Loyer), and those guys, and they do it the right way,” said Ben McCollum, Iowa men’s basketball’s head coach. “So they are going to adapt, too, and we’ll adapt to what we do. You know, just got to be able to handle some of the offensive runs they are going to make because they are just really talented, and so if you can kind of work through some of those, and keep your own steady pace, ya know, I think you give yourself a chance.
I thought defensively (against Purdue on Jan.14) we were pretty good, (or) as good as you can be. I think they are the number one offense in the country. So were as good as you could be, and then just needed to score a few more points down the stretch to be able to win that game because they can score.”
Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
