Insider reveals Falcons' plans for rookie WR Zachariah Branch

The Atlanta Falcons will kick off their preseason schedule one week from today against the Denver Broncos. That's when we'll get our first look at the class of 2026, headlined by cornerback Avieon Terrell and wide receiver Zachariah Branch - both of whom have been making splashy plays at training camp.

Their roles are still to be determined by head coach Kevin Stefanski, but so far Terrell has been taking reps both on the boundary and in the slot. It seems Atlanta has a similar plan for Branch.

According to Josh Kendall at The Athletic, the Falcons won't be using their rookie burner in just one role - but instead they plan to play him all over the field.

"The Falcons plan to line up Branch at all three wide receiver spots, but his quickest path to playing time is probably the F (slot) position where veteran Olamide Zaccheaus is still taking most of the first-team snaps. Branch is looming, though, and everyone in Atlanta can see it."

On paper, right now Branch is projected to be the team's fourth wide receiver on the depth chart beneath Drake London, Jahan Dotson and Olamide Zaccheaus.

However, there's plenty of room for Branch to move up that pecking order - and fast.

During his time at Georgia Branch did most of his work around the line of scrimmage, but we have already seen him making multiple touchdown catches from Michael Penix on deep vertical routes. The more of that he can do, the quicker he'll demand a larger share of the targets.
