The Boston Red Sox cannot stay healthy. The latest casualty to be bitten by the injury bug is starting shortstop Marcelo Mayer, who Tim Healey of the Boston Globe reported would be out of the lineup on Tuesday.

"Marcelo Mayer has a sore left foot after recently fouling a pitch off of it, Chad Tracy said. He’s been walking with a limp," Healey wrote in an X post.

Mayer has recorded four hits in the last four games and batted in four runs as well.

The 23-year-old had stepped into the full-time starting shortstop role while Trevor Story continues his stint on the 60-day injured list.

Tuesday night's lineup is the first of its kind this season after Mayer's injury once again shook up the order.

Nate Eaton is leading off and starting in left. Jarren Duran will be the designated hitter. Andruw Monasterio is going to take over shortstop for the injured Mayer and is batting seventh. Triple-A callup Anthony Seigler will play second and is batting ninth.

Connor Wong is batting eighth and catching for starting pitcher Sonny Gray's day on the mound as the Red Sox try to bounce back from the historic loss to the Colorado Rockies in Game 1 of the series.

Boston and Colorado are currently tied for the fewest wins in Major League Baseball, and the loser tonight will hold sole possession.
