Boston Red Sox shortstop Marcelo Mayer made a change to his swing, which had immediate success.

As Mayer had been struggling at the plate, the shortstop decided to make a tweak to his swing. Mayer has been struggling as he was slashing .167/.215/.208 in his previous 20 games since May 7 and had just one extra-base hit.

So, as he was struggling, Mayer decided to tinker with his stance and swing, and he believes he may have figured something out.

“I’ve just been feeling really disconnected with my legs,” Mayer said. “So I implemented a toe tap or whatever you want to call it two days ago, and it's been feeling really good ever since. I actually started it as a drill during the rain delay, and it felt really good. So, they were like, ‘Yo, just try it on.’ I was like, ‘All right.’”

The change ended up paying off right away as Mayer hit a home run in the third inning to tie the game 1-1.

"I’ve just been working on trying to hit the ball harder, so it definitely felt good,” Mayer said. “Yeah, I’ve just got to keep working at it, got to keep grinding, swinging at the right pitches.”

Mayer’s solo home run was Boston’s only run as the Red Sox suffered a 3-1 loss in the series opener to the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday.
