The Arizona Cardinals began Phase 3 of the offseason program this week with OTAs (organized team activities). They are the first practices when the team can go 7-on-7 or 11-on-11. These practices are still voluntary.

When reporters were present for an open part of Monday's practice, several absences were noted. The most notable absence is quarterback Jacoby Brissett, who is staying away while he seeks a new contract.

One other name of note missing was outside linebacker Josh Sweat, the team's leader in sacks last season.

We have some added information about a couple of absences.

As shared by Arizona Sports 98.7's Tyler Drake, John Gambadoro reported that Sweat's absence is not injury-related, and that veteran defensive lineman L.J. Collier, who also was not on the field on Monday, had a personal day.

However, Sweat not being there and not being injured should not raise major concerns. It is a voluntary part of the offseason. He missed open parts of OTAs last offseason when he had just signed his four-year, $76.4 million contract.

He has $100,000 in workout bonuses, so if he wants that, he needs to attend a certain percentage of the offseason program.

While Sweat was reportedly unhappy with the firing of previous head coach Jonathan Gannon, there is nothing we should be concerned about right now. He is getting paid a lot, he is a veteran and will be in the same defense he had a career-high 12 sacks last season.
