They were my team. The battles between Reid and Unseld were classics. The Bullets/Wizards last championship was 1978 beating Seattle. Unseld/Hayes combination. I remember when they played the National Anthem when the line Home of the Free played everyone yelled "E" for Elvin "Big E" Hayes instead of free. Good days. Thanks Philly. I was initially a Sixers fan in the mid 60’s when Chamberlain was there. I have always hated the Celtics & Lakers, so I couldn’t root for the Lakers when Chamberlain went there. I do remember celebrating when the Sixers won the 67 championship, but once Wilt left, I became a Knicks fan when they drafted Clyde Frazier, Willis Reed, and traded for Dave DeBusschere. Those early 70’s Knicks teams were so much fun, especially when we traded for Earl the Pearl Monroe from the then Baltimore Bullets. Earl was one of my all time faves. I wore #15 throughout my high school years.
The Nickname Bullets came from a nearby ammunition foundry in Baltimore.
