How many teams have qualified for the 2027 ODI World Cup?
The 2027 ICC ODI World Cup will feature 14 participating nations. It is a notable jump from the 10-team format used across the previous two editions.
Co-hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe have already secured automatic qualification by virtue of hosting duties. Beyond those two nations, the next eight highest-ranked teams in the ICC men's ODI rankings, as they stand in March 2027, will progress straight into the main tournament.
Should South Africa remain within that top eight bracket independently of their host status, the ninth-ranked side would then claim direct qualification instead.
The remaining four places in the 14-team field will be decided through the ODI World Cup Qualifier scheduled for summer 2027.

What is the qualification structure for the 2027 ODI World Cup?
The Challenge League will comprise 12 teams split across two pools of six, with each pool contesting three separate round-robin tournaments throughout the qualification cycle.
The top two sides from each pool will then progress to the World Cup Qualifier Playoff.
The ten-team Qualifier tournament will be divided into two groups. This includes the two lowest-ranked Full Member nations in the ODI standings as of September 30, 2026, excluding hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe.
The top four finishers from CWC League 2 will be part of the qualification process. Moreover, four additional teams will emerge from a separate World Cup Qualifier Playoff.
That Playoff stage will bring together the bottom four sides from CWC League 2, together with four teams progressing from the Challenge League, which is effectively cricket's third-tier competition. Finally, the top four finishers will advance into the main World Cup Qualifier.
