European Ryder Cup legend Ian Poulter has congratulated Aaron Rai on his victory at the PGA Championship.

Rai was not expected to be in contention this week, but he delivered a world-class performance at Aronimink Golf Club.

The 31-year-old ultimately won the tournament by three strokes over Jon Rahm and Alex Smalley following a final round 65.

Poulter was clearly impressed by his compatriot’s clutch display in the final round of the PGA Championship.

Aaron Rai has been a quality player on both the PGA Tour and DP World Tour for several years now.

He won the Wyndham Championship in 2024 and the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship in 2025.

Rai has now taken the next step in his golfing career by joining the elite list of major champions.

The significance of winning a major championship is also highlighted by the number of top players who have never won one.

12-time DP World Tour winner and Ryder Cup hero Ian Poulter is among those great golfers who came up short in majors.

With six top 10s and no victories, Poulter knows exactly how difficult it is to get over the line in the biggest events.

Perhaps that played a role in Poulter’s congratulations for Rai in a heartfelt social media post on Sunday night.

“Class seeing Aaron Rai play so well and get this done today. Huge achievement, well done,” the LIV Golfer wrote.

Poulter will not be the last player to praise Rai following his victory at Aronimink, as the 2026 PGA Champion is well-liked on the circuit.

Many consider the Englishman to be one of the nicest golfers around and will be pleased to see his hard work pay off.
