In the Midwest Region of the NCAA men's basketball tournament, No. 3 Virginia will open against No. 14 Wright State, playing the first round game in Philadelphia Friday, March 20 at 1:50 p.m.
Virginia (29-5) is coming off a loss to Duke in the ACC Tournament championship. Virginia fell 74-70 to the Blue Devils, but that came just two weeks after losing to Duke by 26 points in Durham. Virginia is ranked No. 9 in the latest AP Top-25 rankings.
Wright State (23-11) won the Horizon League Tournament, erasing a 12-point deficit to beat Detroit Mercy 66-63 and earn a spot into the NCAA Tournament.
It's the first meeting between the two teams.
The winner of this game will play either No. 6 Tennessee or No. 11 Miami Ohio/SMU, one of the First Four games. Michigan is the top seed, while Iowa State is No. 2 and Alabama is No. 4.
Virginia won the 2019 national championship, but has failed to win a game in the tournament since then. Virginia has missed the tournament twice since then, including last season, losing in the ACC Tournament to Georgia Tech and finishing the year 15-17.
Wright State will play in the NCAA tournament for the fifth time. The Raiders are 1-4 in March Madness with its lone win coming in a 2022 First Four game over Bryant.
TV: TBS
