South Carolina women's basketball incoming freshman Kelsi Andrews will arrive in Columbia with some new hardware.
Andrews won a gold medal with the United States at the 2026 FIBA U18 Women’s AmeriCup, beating Canada 90-72 on June 15 in Irapuato, Mexico. Andrews had three points and two blocks in the final game.
This is the third gold medal for Andrews, who won at the 2024 FIBA U17 World Cup and the 2023 FIBA U16 Americas Championship. The United States won its 12th straight gold medal and 13th overall.
Andrews, a 6-foot-2 forward/center, was South Carolina's first 2026 signee, committing in November.
A total of 22 players tried out for 12 roster spots. Andrews averaged 12 minutes, seven points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists. She had a double-double in the semifinal win over Venezuela when she scored 13 points with 10 rebounds.
Coach Dawn Staley's incoming freshmen and transfers got to Columbia beginning June 12 but Andrews' arrival is delayed because of her participation in the tournament.
She is now the second Gamecocks player to win a gold medal this month.
Joyce Edwards was one of four college players who made the USA Women's 3X3 National Team in the 2026 FIBA 3×3 World Cup. That group won a gold medal on June 7 by defeating Australia.
Andrews played for IMG Academy in Florida but started her journey at Auburn High School in Alabama. After dealing with two ACL tears in her high school career, Andrews tore her meniscus which resulted in surgery in October right before she committed to South Carolina.
She missed the majority of her senior season at IMG Academy with the recent knee injury but was able to play in her final game.
