The 2025 NFL draft is fast approaching and the Atlanta Falcons must find a few impact players if they're going to get better next season. The team was unable to make a major splash in free agency, instead filling holes with affordable free agents and re-signing a few depth players on defense.
The Falcons aren't in great shape with the salary cap, mostly due to Kirk Cousins' disaster of a contract that he signed in 2024. The team will have limited financial resources until Cousins is traded or released. There's a chance he's moved during the draft, but that seems unlikely at the moment.
With that in mind, let's take a look at the Falcons' updated cap numbers ahead of the draft and examine how much money it will cost to sign their 2025 draft class.
According to Over the Cap's projections, the Falcons have just under $10 million in salary cap space ($9.89 million) less than a week from Day 1 of the draft. The team was in much worse shape before extending Jake Matthews and restructuring with Chris Lindstrom and A.J. Terrell.
While $10 million doesn't sound terrible, that's not accounting for the cost of the team's 2025 draft class. Over The Cap's numbers suggest the Falcons will need roughly $4.1 million to sign their 2025 draft class.
Atlanta has just five total picks, two of which are in the seventh round. The Falcons hold the 15th and 46th overall picks but are without a selection in Rounds 3, 5 and 6. Based on these projections, the team should have around $5 million left after signing its rookie class.
Of course, that's assuming the team doesn't make any draft day trades, which would alter Atlanta's total rookie pool. The 2025 NFL draft kicks off next Thursday, April 24 at 8 p.m. ET.
