I don’t think so. Hopkins is one of the top tier that can hold a team hostage but very few have that leverage.

this is a different situation because we traded for him knowing that he was going to demand an extension. Agreeing to the trade is somewhat of an acknowledgment to Hopkins that we understand we need to get something done.

This was always one of the costs associated with the trade.

It wasn't DJ and a 2nd for Nuk, it was DJ and a 2nd for Nuk and a big new contract.

He's simply hiring outside advice and saving the 2 or 3% agent fee.

Not when it means getting rid of David Johnson's contract to acquire a premier player in the league in his prime. It kinda balances out.

No. Contracts weren’t what they are now. Nor was the salary cap. It’s all relative.

Its gonna handcuff us for the salary cap in the foreseeable future. I think 10 of our players are going to eat up 50% of the cap next year.

From my understanding the cap is expected to decrease by $23 mil per team next season.

That could create lots of vets getting cut next year, including our Redbirds
