Sometimes the search for a program's next leader ends exactly where it began.

Catoosa has turned to one of its own to lead its wrestling program, naming former standout Robbie Otero as the Indians' new wrestling coach.

A Catoosa graduate and former state placer, Otero returns home after building an impressive coaching resume that includes multiple state champions and a state runner-up finish in Arkansas.

"Coach brings a proven track record of developing champions, building successful programs and investing in student-athletes both on and off the mat," Catoosa Athletics wrote in announcing the hire. "Most importantly, he understands what it means to wear the Indian logo and represent the Catoosa community."

Otero excelled as a wrestler during his time at Catoosa, qualifying for the state tournament three times. He reached the regional finals in 2016 before placing at 152 pounds at the Class 4A State Tournament that same season.

Following high school, Otero continued his wrestling career at NCAA Division II Ouachita Baptist University.

His coaching career has been equally impressive.

Most recently at Lake Hamilton High School in Arkansas, Otero guided the Wolves to the 2025-26 Arkansas Class 5A South Regional team championship before leading the program to a runner-up finish at the Class 5A State Tournament.

Along the way, he coached 11 individual boys state champions and six girls state champions in Arkansas' Class 5A ranks.

His athletes have also found success on the national stage, producing three Virginia Beach Nationals Folkstyle All-Americans, including one finalist, as well as an Iowa Preseason Nationals All-American.

Otero inherits a Catoosa program that has become one of Class 4A's most consistent contenders in recent years. The Indians now hope one of their former stars can continue that tradition while ushering in the next era of Catoosa wrestling.
