SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The Lake View Maidens and Chiefs hosted district rival Lubbock Cooper Liberty Friday night.
It’s safe to say Lake View didn’t have its way Friday. The Maidens and Chiefs each welcomed district rival Lubbock Cooper Liberty to town; both visiting teams entered ranked top-15 in the state. The Lady Patriots were ranked 14th in the state while the Patriots were ninth.
The Maidens took the court first, and quickly trailed 44-6 at halftime. Despite such a large deficit, the Maidens refused to go down without a fight, scoring nine points in the second half, highlighted by Khloe Villarreal’s deep three-pointer off the glass with 2:30 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Maidens drop to 0-4 in district and 2-20 overall with the 74-15 loss.
On the Chiefs’ side, things didn’t go as planned either. The Patriots quickly jumped to an early 8-0 lead. Lake View slightly began closing the gap, trailing 18-11 after the first quarter. From that point on, Liberty took control the rest of the night en route to a 64-45 win. The Chiefs drop to 0-2 in district and 17-9 overall with the loss.
The Chiefs and Maidens each visit Snyder for their respective next matches on Tuesday, Jan 13.
