Three High Desert boys soccer teams are moving on to the second round of the CIF-Southern Section playoffs.
Sultana, Oak Hills and Granite Hills were all victorious in the opening round on Wednesday, Feb. 11.
The Sultans pulled off a 2-0 victory in the Division 1 opener at Beaumont, which entered the matchup with an impressive 19-3-2 record.
The teams were scoreless at halftime before Sultana struck with goals from Joel Hernandez and Paulino Acosta-Arellano. Jared Hernandez and Chris Echeverria each dished an assist.
Sultana (18-2-5) will be home for the second round of the playoffs, set for Friday. The Sultans will host Rancho Mirage, which beat Redlands East Valley 2-1.
CIF-SS boys soccer playoffs: High Desert teams and players to watch
Here’s a look at the rest of the local boys soccer action:
At Oak Hills, Chris Palacios scored a pair of goals with an assist to lead the Bulldogs in the opening round of the Division 2 playoffs.
Kobe Bouie, Nathan Salinas and Jeremiah Ramirez also scored a goal, while Jandel Rodriguez and Cesar Figueroa both dished an assist.
Oak Hills (15-6-1) will be at Newport Harbor, which beat Loyola 2-0, for the second round.
At Apple Valley, the Cougars proved why they are the No. 1 seed in the Division 4 bracket with a shutout victory.
Acxel Jimenez and Prince Watkins each scored a goal with an assist, while Alec Jimenez also scored a goal and Diego Perez had an assist.
“We played stellar defense, only allowing a shot in the second half,” Granite Hills head coach Paul Casarez said.
Phoenix Ragen made the save on that shot.
Granite Hills (13-4-5) will be at Santa Fe, which beat Ramona 2-0.
At Hesperia, the No. 4-seeded Scorpions were shut out in the opening round of the Division 2 playoffs.
Crossroads scored the game-winning goal in the final minutes of the game.
Hesperia’s season comes to an end with an impressive record of 21-5-3. Crossroads advances to the second round against Tesoro.
At Bellflower, the Silver Knights battled injury but fell short in a penalty-kick shootout in the Division 5 playoffs opener.
Miguel Rodriguez and Jefferey Zavala each scored a goal for Riverside Prep on assists from Maddux Camarena. Riverside Prep’s season ends with an overall record of 10-12-6.
Bellflower advances to face Westlake in the second round.
At Irvine, the Jackrabbits were shut out in the opening round of the Division 4 playoffs.
Victor Valley ends the season with a record of 7-11-7.
At Los Angeles, the Jaguars’ season came to an end in the opening round of the Division 5 playoffs.
University Prep wraps up with an overall record of 11-7-4. Windward will face Crespi in the second round.
At Victorville, a year after reaching the semifinals, the Hawks' season came to an end in the first round of the Division 5 playoffs.
Silverado’s season ends with an overall record of 8-12-4. San Marcos advances to face Golden Valley in the second round.
At Apple Valley, the Knights were shut out in the opening round of the Division 7 playoffs.
AAE ends the season with an overall record of 8-7-3. St. Anthony will face Pioneer in the second round.
At Lucerne Valley, the Mustangs’ season came to an end in the first round of the Division 8 playoffs.
Lucerne Valley ends the season with an impressive record of 12-3-4. Providence advances to the second round against No. 1-seeded San Jacinto Leadership Academy.
At Los Angeles, the Trojans gave up three first-half goals and couldn’t recover in the first round of the Division 8 playoffs.
Silver Valley’s season ends with a record of 9-7-2. Le Lycee will play Bishop Diego in the second round.
At Helendale, the Eagles were shut out in the first round of the Division 8 playoffs.
ACE ends the season with a record of 10-7-3.
