The CIF-L.A. City Section high school baseball playoffs delivered once again, with two competitive championship games being played at Dodger Stadium on May 23.
The Open Division was filled with nail-biters as the higher seeds narrowly prevailed in all but one game, which was No. 6 Granada Hills Charter's 2-0 quarterfinal victory over No. 3 Bell. No. 1 Birmingham took down No. 8 Banning, No. 4 Carson, and No. 2 (and reigning champion) El Camino Real in increasingly close games to finish City Section play on a 14-game tear for an Open Division crown.
Division 1, on the other hand, was defined by successful cinderella runs. No. 13 Verdugo Hills opened the playoffs by putting up eight runs against both No. 16 Los Angeles CES and No. 5 Poly before upsetting top seed Sylmar 2-1 and holding off No. 10 Taft – which was fresh off shutouts of No. 2 Cleveland and No. 3 Venice – by a score of 3-1.
The CIF-LACS softball playoffs finish this weekend on May 29-30.

Some CIF-LACS baseball playoff games will be streamed via the NFHS Network. Those contests will also be available to watch on demand later.
