Jake Wilhoit delivered the go-ahead two-run single in the fourth inning and Riverside Prep pulled away late for a 7-3 victory over Capistrano Valley Christian in the first round of the CIF-Southern Section Division 5 baseball playoffs Friday, May 15.

Wilhoit’s hit gave the Silver Knights a 3-2 lead and helped spark the offense before adding four more runs in the fifth inning to seal the win.

Jacob Villegas earned the victory on the mound, allowing one earned run with four strikeouts over 5 ⅓ innings. He also scored two runs and stole a base.

Evan DuVall recorded the final five outs for the save, striking out three batters, including the final hitter as Capistrano Valley Christian threatened late.

Eddie Frausto led the Riverside Prep offense by going 3 for 4, highlighted by a two-run triple during the four-run fifth inning. Wilhoit finished 2 for 3.

Riverside Prep (17-11) will travel to Temescal Canyon in the second round May 19 after Temescal Canyon defeated Arrowhead Christian 8-5.

Division 3 — Redondo Union 8, Burroughs 7​


At Ridgecrest, the Burros scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback.

Colby Bachman hit a two-run home run with one out to pull Burroughs within a run. But Redondo Union escaped the jam with a strikeout and a pop up to shortstop. Bachman also hit a three-run home run.

Burroughs’ season ends 22-5 overall after capturing the Mojave River League title. Redondo Union will face Mira Costa, which beat Arlington 8-6.

Division 5 — Kaiser 6, Oak Hills 5​


At Oak Hills, the Bulldogs got the game-tying run to second base with no outs in the bottom of the seventh inning but couldn’t capitalize.

Kaiser took a 4-2 lead after the third inning, but Oak Hills chipped away, tying the game after scoring a run in the fourth and fifth innings.

Kaiser tacked on two more runs in the top of the sixth inning and held on for the win.

Jacob Webster went 1 for 2 with two walks, two runs and two stolen bases; Michael Nava went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run

Kaiser will take on Quartz Hill, which shutout Tahquitz 12-0.

Division 7 — No. 4 Victor Valley 9, Valencia 3​


At Victorville, Robert Middlebrooks went 4 for 4 with three runs and a stolen base to lead the fourth-seeded Jackrabbits.

Up one run, Victor Valley sealed the deal with a five-run sixth inning. Tyler Aguilar picked up the win on the mound with five strikeouts over five innings, while Victor Martinez got the save with two scoreless innings.

Milo Figueroa went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and a run and a stolen base; A Rodriguez went 2 for 2 with a RBI; and Davian Dominguez went 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a run.

Victor Valley (13-11) will either host Viewpoint or travel to Patriot for the second round.

Division 7 — Carter 10, Adelanto 1​


At Adelanto, the Saints were held to just four hits, with three coming by Jeremy Madrigal.

The left fielder drove in Adelanto’s lone run with a double in the first inning, scoring Eduardo Beas.
