Jun. 26—The 2026-27 roster is all but set for Shauna Green's Illinois women's basketball program. So, over the next few weeks, we'll take a closer look at each of the 14 players on Green's fifth Illini team.

➜ Alves didn't get a chance to play for the Illini as a freshman. Her debut season ended before it even began as the highly-touted recruit sustained a torn ACL in offseason summer workouts. It was a tough blow for the much-heralded forward to miss out on a 2025-26 season that held so much for a young Illinois roster that went on to win 22 games, including a 66-57 victory against Colorado in the first round of the NCAA tournament, before a second-round exit after coming up short against No. 2 seed Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tenn.

➜ That Alves was supposed to have a prominent role on an Illini team bursting with talent has just been delayed by one year. Alves could be that for Illinois this upcoming season, although the Illini have brought her on slow especially coming off a major injury. Alves arrived at Illinois as a four-star recruit ranked as high as No. 61 by ESPN and could have a key role in the rotation on an Illini team with very lofty expectations given the top-nine scorers are all back. Where Alves fits in that rotation is still the major question entering the 2026-27 season.
