FWIW - This AM on FTB, MJ said Graves is on vacation (a cruise) for the month of July & won't be back until training camp.

MJ said the contracts will be worked on by Idzik but nearly the top picks are done, just a matter of which agent will cave in first, being the first to sign the top picks. Agents don't like to be the first to sign 'cuz it shows "weakness" per say.

Idzik will be handling the signings 2-3-4-5-6-7 round, Graves round 1

Anyways, Eugene Parker & Graves have been talking & Graves should be able to keep in touch while he's away.

So let me get this right! MJ was saying that most of the top picks are handled, it is just a matter of the first signing?

I agree. I haven't been a big fan of Graves time as GM. This really will be the last straw if there is a holdout.

I'm still willing to give Granes the benefit of the doubt only beacsue Dennis Green is our coach - if Fizt is holding out than I'll start to get into GRaves again - but for now - what's the point? I guess just boredom.

No kidding. I don't know exactly what these guys do all year, but I would think a good time for a vacation would be January to March or something...or February to March if our team stopped doing stupid stuff like this and actually made the playoffs occasionally!

THis is truly the time of year to tAke vacations. You can't do it August trough January that is season. You can't do it while college bowls and draft boards are being put together including interviewing and going out to see players. That takes you through March. Free agency comes and that lasts right through the beginning of June.

Have faith I believe they will get it done just like they did last year. Man I love to cruise. I wish it were me.

I agree with Seesred & Chris Sanders (nice avatar BTW). Chill guys, I'm sure the only possible holdout we'll have this year is Dansby because of his agent(s). Have some faith, and if the players are not signed by training camp, then bring out the torches. That's my opinion anyway.

Basically...many of the NFL 1st rounders are in line w/their deals. It's a matter of who will crack first among the agents - many times a deal is done, but if the #12 pick gets 112% over last year's #1 & #12 signs first, & the #11 pick is 110% over last years, then they will bump #11's deal to 112% over last year's deal.....

Seesred, Vince, all well and good, but the fact remains, the equation here is a losing one. SUPPOSEDLY we'll have all picks to camp on time...let's just say that's the optimal. Now, we've been told Graves is handling the Fitz signing. Okay, no problem. Camp starts at the beginning of August. Now Graves is going to be away UNTIL the start of camp...so when, exactly, do negotiations for Fitz and an actual signing occur before the start of training camp? It doesn't fit (no pun intended). At least a little cause for concern, IMO.

I heard Jurecki say the same thing.

Only thing is that he said it a couple of weeks ago, and Idzik hasn't signed even the lowest picks during that period (or at least no signings have been made public to date).

I'm a strong believer in "not letting time become your enemy." The longer we wait to sign people, the less strong our position gradually becomes.

It's still too early to push El Button de Panique - but right about now, it wouldn't be a bad idea to pull out the old "red flag" and start fastening it to the halyards.

I don't have any data, and I'm purely speculating, but I would imagine that most GMs in the league are on vacation now.

They're all at my house sipping fruity-drinks from coconuts with little umbrellas. Graves just jumped from the roof into the pool...NAKED! That man is a party animal. Mike Shannahan is passed out on the couch; the other GMs have painted skeletor teeth on his face with a sharpie. The Tuna is dancing around with a lampshade on his head singing "Margaritaville." Nickleback will be playing in the basement tonight, and I think Hootie and the Blowfish are trying to sneak their way in (Ernie Accorsi tells me now that Marino is out of the league they don't have many connections and are a real pain in the ass).

Good times.

Rod Graves needed a vacation badly, IMO. And you can rest assured that owners are heavily involved in the negotiations for most of the top ten or so picks.

It makes me laugh when I read reporters and fans alike say the owner should just "let the football people handle everything". If I had a $600 million asset, I'd be heavily involved in watching and nurturing that asset very carefully.
