im tired of talking offense - if there's any chance of saving our season (lol) it'll be our defense

rankings schmankings - we know what we see - we know what we like and what we don't - the 4 man is very unpopular - the zone gets frustrating at times too - and the murder rate in arizona isn't nearly high as expected (and that's not my fault ouchie)

but - and this isn't the traditional bad but or one of the non consequential buts - this is a glorious but... the eyes can sometimes deceive

I think it's overall frustration making it's way to the defensive accusations- myself more than included - i came loaded for bear but truth is our defense is doing things

far as yards per game we're not so hot

now let's look at points allowed

that's the bend but don't break results rallis is working with - not too shabby and it's because of the 4 man and zone with calculated blitzes sprinkled in - one thing thats changed is the blitzing on 1st and 2nd downs - seemed like only 3rd downs forever but the early blitzing can stall drives earlier or give up a chunk play to the offense when they have the personnel in place

will johnson ladies and gentlemen - folks are learning not to test him - sweat and browning are becoming a quality edge combo

imagine if we had a offense

Like the rest of the team, they have underperformed. however, in points per game they are good and scoring is what counts.

This defense is 1st in EPA/play in the first 3 quarters. In the 4th quarter, they are 27th.

There's some effect from the offense in here I think?

We have generally been up in most games, turtled in the 2nd half, had a bunch of crappy drives and given a lot of the ball to the opposition. I know it's a per play stat, but I'm guessing gassing is a factor.

But there is some stuff I'm not keen on. They rotate too much for my liking.

The defense is not living up to the billing. They are average at best right now based on the level of competition I said C

We’ve played three atrocious offenses and that is the only reason our PPG against is so low.

When the rubber’s met the road at the end games, they’ve snapped like a twig EASILY in three straight games and came within a whisker of doing so against the Saints also.

They get a C+

If they could rely on the offense, this team would be 5-0. They have been asked to win games because the offense has been maggot infested trash every game we've played. They have certainly not been world beaters, but they have played well enough in stretches for us to win games. That's truly all you can ask. No team we've lost to has had to score a touchdown to beat us, but if you keep giving teams chance after chance after chance because you fail to make it hard on them by scoring yourself, you are very likely going to lose that game. You're asking NFL teams NOT to be able to get into field position to kick a winning FG in a game where they've got to have it. We are playing the exact opposite of complementary football and it's driving me to drink. I can't wait for the inevitable failure when we've got to drive to win a game. I may as well shut my TV off when that happens.

Losing our CB's has been big for us and possibly the vanilla scheme? Thompson is covering Wr's way too much and while Clark is playing well he forwarded that fumble twice into the endzone. Would he have even been on the field?

I cant wait to see what Nolen does.

It’s interesting, for their entirety they look good and their scoring against stats look good.

But with the game on the line the end but don’t break has held on for dear life if up 4+ but it’s bent to the point of wilting when up 3 or less. In other words, if you bend up 3 you’re just going to give up a deadly FG. And for that reason, in a league of parity, I can’t give them an above average grade. So it’s a C for me.

sucks because we should be playing our best defense in the 4th quarters - we went out and gotta bunch dudes to rotate for that very reason

Agree 100% with this. While the defense did give up 3 game winning drives, they shouldn't have been on the field. In all 3 games, the offence had the ball with the charge to possess the ball long enough to win the game. All 3 times they have failed. The 96 points allowed is ranked #6. 103 points scored is #21. Defense has been doing their job most of the time. Offense has to go win games!

Easy B.

Cluster injuries at CB and DL have been brutal. SMB, STV, and Garrett Williams all out for the year. Nolen hasn't played. JJones hasn't played. Collier played 1 game. Nichols has played 1 game. DRob dealing with injury. I understand the performance levels of these players varies, but just being down bodies is tough at times.

Yup. Edge group looks really good but they’re getting hurt because there isn’t enough talent on the back end.

No one has defended more pass attempts than the Arizona Cardinals this season.

I agree that injuries have hampered the D, but I have to downgrade them to a C based on coaching. Rallis has been criminally conservative and he is the head of the D. For me, the players have held up as well as possible. But we don't have the horses to rush 4 at the end of a game.
