New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh is heading back to the place where his football career began.
On May 16, Harbaugh will deliver the commencement address at his alma mater, the University of Miami in Ohio.
"It's a great honor to be Miami’s commencement speaker," Harbaugh said in a release by the school. "I just have so much respect for Miami, for the administration, for the university, for everything it stands for, for everything it did for me."
Harbaugh was a top student athlete at Miami, where he played defensive back on the football team. He graduated in 1984 with a degree in political science.
Harbaugh is one of many successful coaches to come from Miami, which is known as the "Cradle of Coaches." Many greats of the game, such as Paul Brown, Weeb Ewbank, Bo Schembechler, Ara Parseghian, and Sean McVay, can trace their roots back to Miami.
"Miami was my place. Miami is always my place because that's the place where I grew the most, changed the most, was challenged the most, made the best friends of my life," Harbaugh said.
A documentary about the Miami coaching tree is set to come out this summer.
"I am fired up about the Cradle of Coaches documentary; can't wait to see it. Can't wait to see all my pals and my buddies and the people I've admired, to all the greats that have gone through Miami," Harbaugh said.
