The Peach State continues to produce elite high school football talent. Georgia is home to 12 of the top 100 recruits in the country in the class of 2026, but the home state Georgia Bulldogs signed just two of them.
However, Georgia did sign two in-state recruits that are part of the nation's best high school team. The Buford Wolves were crowned as the national champions of high school football. Three-star athlete Tyriq Green dominated in Buford's close state championship win over Carrollton, who also had one of the country's best high school teams. The Buford-Carrollton state championship game (6A) was considered by many experts to be the de facto national championship game.
An 82-yard Tyriq Green touchdown run proved to be the winning score for Buford. In addition to Green, Georgia also signed three-star Buford offensive lineman Graham Houston.
Buford is the first Georgia team to be named as national champions during the MaxPreps era (since 2004). Georgia high school football is some of the best in the country, so it is easy to see why the Peach State could produce a national champion. Buford finished the season 15-0 and capped of its season with a state title win over Carrollton, who is ranked as MaxPreps' No. 5 team in the nation.
The Peach State finished the year with four teams ranked in MaxPreps' top-25. No. 1 Buford, No. 5 Carrollton, No. 13 Grayson and No. 19 Creekside all had outstanding 2025 seasons.
