Eight months after completing an unbeaten season, winning the GHSA Class 6A state championship, and earning USA TODAY Sports Super 25 naitonal champion honors, the Buford Wolves (GA) will kick off the 2026 season on the primetime stage.

According to the team's X account, Buford will play its season-opener at home on August 22 against Gainesville (GA) on ESPN.

Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m ET.

This marks the second consecutive season that Buford will play its season-opener at home on ESPN. Last year they debuted Phillip Beard Stadium with a 20-13 win over Milton.

Buford went 15-0 last season, completing the perfect year with a 28-21 win over Carrollton in the Class 6A championship game.

That win marked championship No. 15 for the Wolves and cemented their status at the top of the final USA TODAY Sports Super 25 football rankings last season.

Gainesville is coming off a 12-3 season, finishing with a 62-21 loss to Thomas County Central.

The Red Elephants enter 2026 with a new coach in charge as former Grayson head coach Santavious Bryant was hired in January.

Bryant saw a ton of success with Grayson leading the Rams to a 37-5 record in three seasons and the Class 6A state title in 2024.
