Georgia Bulldogs junior forward Dylan James has announced he plans to enter the transfer portal. James is a talented, experience player that will draw interest from programs across the country. He will have one year of eligibility left.
At 6-foot-9, 215 pounds, James has been a solid contributor off the Dawgs’ bench throughout the past three seasons of play. The forward averaged 4.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 0.5 assists in 15 minutes per game this season, but James could produce elsewhere with a major increase in playing time. James most notably tallied 16 points and six rebounds vs. Florida this year. The junior will likely look for more playing time after not starting for Georgia (18 career starts) on a nightly basis over his three seasons in Athens.
James was ranked as the No. 18 power forward and the No. 87 player in the class of 2023 prior to his Georgia commitment, per the 247Sports rankings. He was ranked as the No. 9 player out of Florida. James drew serious interest from teams like Miami, Alabama and Georgia Tech coming out of high school. The lengthy forward will now turn his attention toward his senior season. The junior was unable to become a major difference maker throughout his career at Georgia, but James will hope emerge with an expanded role in 2026-2027 regardless of what program he plays for.
Georgia basketball could emerge as one of the most active teams in the transfer portal this offseason, as James has announced he does not plan on returning to Athens in 2026. Other Bulldogs are expected to make decisions on if they will return in the upcoming days after Georgia's disappointing NCAA Tournament loss against Saint Louis.
The NCAA basketball transfer portal opens on April 7 and will remain open for 15 days. The portal closes on April 21.
