The 2026 NBA Draft class was one for the ages. Featuring future All-Stars in AJ Dybantsa, Darius Acuff and former Tar Heel Caleb Wilson, the NBA is in good hands.
These rookies are currently playing in Summer League action, with picks showcasing their talent and undrafted guys fighting for roster spots. Darryn Peterson, whom the Utah Jazz took second overall last month, led his team with 24 points on Thursday night.
Despite Peterson's big scoring night, former UNC standout Seth Trimble held him to 6-of-18 shooting from the field. Trimble's lockdown defense played a huge role in the Washington Wizards' close, 92-88 victory.
Trimble only played 12 minutes off the bench, but instantly showcased his ability to positively impact an NBA roster with a balanced outing of two points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Holding arguably the best scorer in this year's NBA Draft Class to just six field goals, that's something a lot of rookies struggle with.
Not Trimble. If Washington decides to sign the former North Carolina captain, he'll join a promising roster with NBA All-Stars Anthony Davis and Trey Young, plus top overall pick AJ Dybantsa.
Trimble stepped into a full-time starting role during the Tar Heels' 2025-26 season, averaging career-highs of 14 points, 3.8 rebounds and three assists per game. In a season full of ups-and-downs in Chapel Hill, Trimble provided a legendary moment with his buzzer-beating 3-pointer to beat archrival Duke on February 7.
Who knows where Trimble ends up after Summer League, but if he keeps holding future stars to just six makes from the field, he'll have a permanent contract soon.
