UNC basketball’s Seth Trimble was not selected in the 2026 NBA Draft, but the Tar Heel captain will get a chance to earn his spot on a roster. Trimble signed a deal with the Washington Wizards on Friday, June 26, UNC announced.

Caleb Wilson was selected No. 4 overall by the Chicago Bulls and Henri Veesaar was taken by the Atlanta Hawks late in the second round. Trimble will join that duo at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. The Ben & Jerry’s owner wowed evaluators at the NBA Draft Combine with his athletic testing and improved every season at UNC.

Here are Trimble’s stats, his strengths and weaknesses, and what his future could look like as an NBA player with the Wizards, who selected AJ Dybantsa with the No. 1 overall pick, or another franchise.

Seth Trimble stats

A captain and four-year player for the Tar Heels, Trimble improved in every season at UNC. Some head injuries and a broken forearm set him back at certain points, but he wrapped up his senior season with averages of 14 points on 47.1% shooting, 3.8 rebounds, 3 assists and 1.3 steals per game. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound guard had a career-high 30 points in a win against Louisville.

Seth Trimble strengths

With pogo-stick-like jumping ability, along with elite lateral quickness and strength as a big guard, Trimble’s defense and aggressiveness in getting to the rim will be his selling points in the NBA. He showed throughout his career that he can create scoring opportunities with his defense without putting other defenders in a bind.

Seth Trimble weaknesses

Every conversation about Trimble’s weaknesses points toward his perimeter shooting. Despite making a corner 3-pointer that will go down in history as one of the most famous shots in the UNC-Duke rivalry, Trimble struggled to find consistency from beyond the arc. That limits his offensive ceiling and two-way potential in the league.

Seth Trimble NBA future

Athleticism and energy won’t be issues for Trimble, who will get his shot to show he can contribute to an NBA franchise during the summer league. A two-way standout at the college level, Trimble will need to develop a more consistent jumper to stick in the NBA, but his defense and ability in the open court will give him a chance to hang around.
