The Athletics are set to call up former UCLA left-handed pitcher Gage Jump to MLB, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

Jump, a 23-year-old Southern California native, ranks as MLB’s No. 41 prospect, as well as the No. 3 prospects in the A’s’ system.

The Athletics are calling up Gage Jump, one of the best left-handed pitching prospects in baseball, sources tell ESPN. Jump, 23, runs his fastball up to 97 and has struck out 56 in 38 innings at AAA. He was part of what's shaping up to be a very interesting draft class in 2024.

First drafted by the San Diego Padres out of high school in the 18th round of the 2021 MLB Draft, Jump declined to sign with the team and opted to honor his commitment to UCLA.

Jump made seven appearances for the Bruins in 2022, posting a 3.86 ERA through seven appearances, and struck out 22 batters in 16.1 innings before undergoing elbow surgery, which kept him out of the remainder of his freshman season as well as the entirety of the following year.

He transferred to LSU for his draft year in 2024, and greatly increased his draft stock with 17 stellar appearances for the Tigers. He had a 3.47 ERA through 83 innings pitched, and struck out 101 batters in that time. The A’s drafted Jump in the second round with the 73rd overall pick.

How Has Gage Jump Performed in Professional Baseball?

Jump made his professional debut in High-A last season, quickly moving up to Double-A after posting a 2.32 ERA in six appearances for the Lansing Lugnuts. In Double-A last year, he made 20 appearances and posted a 3.64 ERA. He pitched 112.2 innings in 2025, striking out 131 batters.

The southpaw maintained his high strikeout rate this season despite moving up to Triple-A, fanning 56 batters in 38 innings pitched, and made a quick adjustment to the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League.

Jump walked 19 batters in his first seven starts this season, during which he had a 6.33 ERA, but has been almost unstoppable in his last two starts, issuing just one free pass while throwing 11 scoreless innings with 15 strikeouts to drop his ERA on the season to 4.50. His most recent start, a seven-inning, shutout performance, earned him the PCL Pitcher of the Week award—his first.

The A’s may have a hole in their rotation after veteran starter Aaron Civale revealed he had been pitching through injury, so Jump could take over his next start. That outing would come against the New York Yankees at the AL West squad’s temporary home in West Sacramento this weekend.
